While I was pre-occupied in a late night online escapade of continuously browsing social networks sites, I somehow came across a little foodie organisation called "SecretEats". One click to the website link and a few weeks later I found myself waiting in anticipation for an underground dining experience of a life time.
Created, delivered and brought to South Africa by New Yorker "Gregory Zeleny". The idea of of SecretEats is to create a warm, friendly atmosphere where frenzied socialites and foodaholics alike, gather to dine in some of the best and most mysterious places in and around the city of Cape Town and Jozi. No restaurants, no ques, the location is unknown until the day of arrival. You may apply to cook, host or be served.
"I"....was one to have definitely been served.
The location was all about the view that day as the last rays of summer were gathered over the big blue sky of LLundadno Beach,Cape Town. A short painful trek up a driveway in heels, and I found myself outside an amazing beach villa, standing in awe at the beautiful scenery with a litchi, rose scent, lime and Grey Goose vodka cocktail in my hand.
The house belonged to a well-known french photographer, "Jean-Marc Lederman" who became famous for shooting Goldie during the later's Bjork-dating days.
While we had a chance to chat, mingle and meet our fellow foodies, it was finally the time of the night where we were served our first course. I am pescatarian, so to start with I was catered with a delightful fig, goats cheese and arugula salad. My main course was a big dollop of everyone else's starter ( I didn't mind since it was delicious!) - Hot smoked salmon pate with wasabi and lemon. Meat lovers were served an "ooey gooey"mouthwatering lambshank cooked to perfection, served ontop of creamy mashed potatoes and a garnish of mint leaves with spring onions. (I teased that it looked like something out of the flinstones).
Finally, dessert - the end of all and be all of the night. This was my favourite part of the night and finally put a golden ending to this event. We were served a salted caramel tart that absolutely left most of us in awe for more...
Compliments to the chef of the night, "Candice Le Noury" - fellow food blogger and amateur chef extraordinair!
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the next SecretEats dinner function on the 4th of May, but a time for another delightful event is definitely listed on my calender...
